Hawaii

The day stretched
like putty to all
hours of night crickets
and light breezes
waft through my windows
like the light winds
of Sunday afternoons
the weather feels like
August when its only
May in Hawaii

the day stretched
like a lazy cat into
night humid and airless
a service kitchen full of
cacophany the sounds
of night bleed into
my window on a moonless
night nightmares take hold
like intruders in the shadows
the night feels like NYC

You

Your eyes the color
of autumn and shaped
like pecans your smile
as delicate as porcelain
as white as alabaster
your chin a point
separating the triangles
of your jaw your throat
a pillar of strength and
the pools of your clavicle
invites my kiss
I kiss your velveteen
lips feel the moist softness
like a damp cloth and
move my tongue
to yours

Until

Words stick
chewing gum
to shoes in my
fingers can’t
dance on the
keyboard like
ballerinas instead
stop
like boulders of
thought creating
a roadblock to creativity
words hesitate
an interrogation of
ideas in a cul de sac
round like spun sugar
round and round
until

Writing Honest (for M2)

I know now
what writing is
like that is honest
it’s brutal like a bear
maul
it’s exposing like
a good cry
it’s painful like a
thorn
and it’s naked
like children
under swimming
pool showers
giggling and jumping
writing honest
is like
talking to
my lover

Truth (for Juan)

Like a good
boy scout I
told the truth
today to my
lover
truth stung bee
stings and bit
junkyard dogs

I bled remorse

My lover a pillar
stood his ground
like a Centurian

and forgave me

Lovers it is
said are
the missing
half of our
soul
