As day yawns
Smiling grapefruit red
Apricot and sunflower
Bleeding into tidepool
Blue midnight black
Mockingbirds mocking and
Grouse flying startled
Everything awakens slowly
From its slumber

Windowsill warmed cats
Even I bat
Sleep from eyes
And sip slowly
My steaming coffee
Until like dawn
