The day starts
Sweetly like that
First lick of
An ice-cream on
A humid afternoon
Full of surprise
Like the first
Kiss as a
Teenager quiet like
Morning mass at
The towns church
And bubbly like
That first kick
Of coffee held
Between cold hands
Today I am
Happy like a
Child grasping his
First A marked
Test knowing that
The cramming study
Of your body
Last night has
Brought to me
You this morning
Once fresh like
Bread right out
Of the oven
Crusty and warm
To the touch
Like a new
Comic book filled
With action and
Adventure crazy characters
Capable of saving
The world like
Lovers only interested
In the simple
Touch of hand
To body but
We’ve cooled like
Those dog days
Of summer after
Anticipated thunder storms
Which knowingly will
Heat up again
Bringing more rain
And eventual Autumn
Sillily I thought
We’d be summer
A while longer
I still write
To you almost
Almost every day
But I don’t
Tell you anymore
In the beginning
We talked like
Newly found friends
At a summer
Camp dizzy with
Secrets and laughter
But now we’ve
Returned to our
Old life of
School and homework
Besieged with mundane
Let us meet
Again soon sitting
Around a campfire
In awe of
Each other like
The children that
We were when
We first met
Sometimes you say
Things that tickle
Me like a
Feather or dandelion
Under the chin
Yesterday you said
That a best
Friend asked about
You about me
Giddy with glee
I realized that
I was now
A part of
An extended part
Of you that
I was present
In not only
Your life but
Also in theirs
Such a wonderful
Place to be
Indeed
Happiness is a
State not confined
To borders it
Is a declaration
Not an evidence
It isn’t found
But generated it
Isn’t the result
Of something else
Happiness simply is
Share your happiness
With those beleaguered
By despair it
Is a silent
Gift spread it
About like rich
Soil prompting more
Happiness to blossom
In your world
