Pearl

The sky resembles
the lining of
an oyster shell
streaks of pink
and blue and
white and gray
and even orange
and I wonder
if our world
is a pearl
cradled in the
cosmic azure ether

Sunrise

It’s interesting to me
that the buildings man
have made reflect sunrise
making them eerily glow
like ghosts absent souls
but the mountains remain
dark and patiently quiet
thankfully awaiting their turn
for Heaven to nod
like souls in purgatory

TheRoad

Once on a road
a hundred miles straight
in one direction another
hundred miles straight in
the other I stood
thinking
What if I stayed
right here right here
where I am would
the people over there
notice would the people
that way notice would
any of them miss
me
what if I stayed
Every single day of
my life I have
asked the same question
and every single day
of my life I
hear the same answer
no
no one would care
so why should I
and so I continue
down the same road
with the hundreds of
miles in front and
the hundreds of miles
behind knowing that no
one in either direction
would care if I
if I ever dared
to ever keep going

TheRockies

Far off I see
the shoulders of animals
of war on campaign
draped in black and
green their leader standing
taller than the rest
wears white and gold
now in formation head
to tail they stand
awaiting command but none
comes none has for
millions of years ever
since they first arrived
erupting from the bowels
of the earth these
behemoths crawled and scratched
tore and laid waste
to whatever was before
now long gone beneath
the patient hooves of
these Rockies Mountains giants

TheSea

The funny thing about
boats is that they
either go where you
point them or they
go where they will
We all have a
boat
Some remain tightly moored
rarely if ever sailed
others set sail so
often that a harbor
is never seen safely
the sea is their
home
While others are building
theirs fashioning them out
of all brands of
silliness hoisting high their
sails of dreams and
rudders of haphazard desire
But you prefer to
remain dockside opting for
the land beneath feet
rather than sea legs
let others you cry
as ships set sail
have your adventures but
don’t come crawling back
when it doesn’t work
those
who do never do
really ever come back
