One possesses peace when, upon awakening from slumber, you’re relieved to be where you are, alive, rather than in the dream where you were.

Flame
Be the flame
around which others
warm themselves slowly
Be the flame
upon which others
follow without stumbling
Be the flame
with which others
ignite their dreams
Be the flame
where which others
be their own
Doom
Most of the world
is waiting for the
zombie apocalypse funny right
Why wait for something
that is already here
Almost all the world
is already dead inside
focused on one thing
one thing only what’s
in it for me
with chillingly absent remorse
Just like the zombies
that everyone always fears
Poetry
Poetry slows life down
causing the reader to
think rather than being
obliviously entertained demanding engagement
like a clutch needing
its gears to move
forward or back or
fast or even slow
Poetry requires no punctuation
lest for an ellipse
for poetry has only
ever been about words
and always denying convention
HighDesertMorn
The morning starts with
a blush as though
the buildings and mountains
were both embarrassed by
something said or done
High gray clouds hover
like paparazzi poised to
snap at the tiniest
suggestion of rain and
now as the sun
slowly stretches behind the
eastern sky like a
shy school boy raising
his hand bathing windows
with deep bright orange
as though whatever secret
the buildings and mountains
hide is hopelessly true
