What if what someone
finds you attractive for
isn’t the thing that
you want them to
what if the thing
that you know to
be the best you
is never even seen
what do you do
I have found myself
bobbing in an ocean
of suitors immersed in
their affections batting away
the paws and nibbles
wishing that just one
would take a bite
from the place where
I know I’ll bleed
but rather they bump
against the one place
where what they think
is flesh is bone
sometimes I think that
I will simply drown
rather than being eaten
to live again a
part of someone else

Comedy
I watch life around
me puppets and toys
move about in some
comedy cast without knowing
maybe a melodrama or
two when tempers flare
and hearts become broken
but mostly comedies for
those of us watching
and never ever for
those who’ve been played
LittleLightningBugs
Lordy even a lightning
bug knows what it
wants as it bobs
and bounces around my
garden glowing and calling
so why’s it so
hard for people to
know maybe this mass
of gray matter that
we laud above all
of the other beasts
is not nearly as
wowing as we’ve been
led to believe oh
let everyone just turn
into little lightning bugs
filling gardens with light
for those little candles
shed more light on
how to live life
than reasonable humans do

I just wonder if
each of us was
given but just one
of almost practically everything
would any of us
ever have any complaints
one snowflake one raindrop
one birthday one tear
one love one heartbreak
one day one moment
I sometimes think that
we being used to
having many forget or
perhaps avoid the joy
of having just one
one snowflake upon tongue
one raindrop upon cheek
one birthday to celebrate
one tear to cry
one love to have
one heart to break
when one thinks about
this this one idea
one must also include
one birth and one death
and all the many
more ones in between
