Being different doesn’t
mean being better
it means empathy
an understanding that
things are similar
and things aren’t
it’s the gap
the place where
flute overtakes drums
where song replaces
concern and even
where love supplants
animosity being different
is being candle
in dark rooms

I wonder if
the reason why
so many spend
so much time
in our minds
is because we’ve
lost the way
to listen to
our own hearts
and why many
now believe that
it has been
lying to us
