Why coffee says morning 
I don’t really know 
toothpaste while certainly a
morning routine doesn’t say
eggs toast and bacon 
well they don’t either 
not even a hot
shower says much but 
mmm and ahh so 
why does that first
hot sip of coffee 
scream of good morning 
that’s a good question 
says everything else in
pantry refrigerator and house
what about the rest
of us who sit
patiently waiting for use
oh I say you 
are just like me 
often overlooked for something 
creamy hot packing punch

I have been moving 
like a rolling tumbleweed 
for so many years 
after my marriage ended
once roots are ripped 
from one’s life’s earth
there is no where 
to be so roll
you do on and
on over and under 
until at last you 
stop or something stops
for me it was 
the Rocky Mountains for 
they’re bigger than me 
and in Denver I 
took root once again 
finding the fertile ground 
of my own happiness 
and of peace serenity 
harmony of heart and 
the love of friends 

I have this knack
of never cracking under 
stress some call it 
crazy others call it 
control I call it 
confidence for I know 
that no matter what 
I will get out 
and get better and 
then I’ll go back 
to do it all
again until I get 
it right for getting 
anything right is always 
better than trying to 
live with ever having 
gotten it wrong but 
the wrong that I
might have gotten is
me and never you 
that’s called personal responsibility 

I see balloons 
and bubbles some 
up high and 
some down below 
but both things 
filled with air 
both float when 
released from that
which keeps them 
one to soar
the other bounce 
but neither do 
much ever really 
except cause glee
and wonder where

It’s here though 
hard to see
maybe from the 
inside if you 
could see there
a change to 
somewhere by someone 
a knick maybe 
a knack but 
definitely a knock 
by someone else 
looking to get 
in or maybe 
to get out 
always me answering 
and nobody’s there
