The best thing 
about going through 
what I’ve been 
is enjoying what 
little I have 
for when I 
did have more 
I had less 
of that which 
I have now 

I find comfort 
in darkness not
the suffocating black 
but more the
gray the dance 
of candlelight the 
sliver of moon
passing between the 
part of curtains 
and those brief
bright stars that 
appear in your 
eyes when they 
catch the same 
it’s in these
and in those
that darkness dreams 

Life is perspective 
not opinion or
point of view 
those things are
simply thoughts perspective 
is culled from 
experience while the 
others are feelings 
tastes and reactions 
perspective is foundational 
a rock or 
reflection or tree
upon which to 
sit or stand 
or to climb 
and then ponder
or wonder or 
for some see

Frequently we must 
taste of the 
forbidden fruit to
understand just how 
bitter most things 
are that we
have wanted badly 

Hope came in 
the form of
embarrassing the former 
and highlighting the future 
old tired and 
angry we saw
how heavy a
life of lies 
is and that 
broken promises can 
dress a man 
like a mirage 
but when the 
rains of tomorrow 
pelt the dessert 
even it despite 
its efforts to 
deflect will absorb 
and ultimately deflate 
becoming just another 
piece of land 
where things grow
