Clock

I bought a clock
for fifty percent off
expecting damage it arrived
in a pristine condition
put together wound up
hung on the wall
looking handsome as ever
keeping perfect time its
pendulum so easily swung
and then it chimed
like a bell tower
with a sore throat
and an hour off
one at two two
at three then I
knew that the little
clock was perfect we’re
both a little off
and considered damaged goods
welcome home my friend

🕰️

Except wrinkles
and death
I frequently
forget time
a pendulum
clock silently
swinging reminds
me of
just how
precious these
moments are
and how
silently simple
they pass

Only

Before it was
me it was
everyone it was
always about everyone
and everything everyone
wanted and me
I wanted them
to want me
so I gave
up on me
so they wouldn’t
and now I
have my everything
which is me

Words

They are
just words
when written
oh no
they are
much more
said the
pen to
the paper
they are
such promises
when read

Acorn

And I remember
oh I remember
said the acorn
one frosty day
of belonging once
to an oak
way up high
and looking down
but now down
I truly am
and I remember
how I remember
being mighty once
