I do enjoy dull
finding things to polish
and make new again
but polishing things is
different than polishing people
people simply don’t change
no matter how hard
one rubs or shines
they remain the same
I think now that
people once dull remain
dull having always been
that lackluster tired way

And yesterday felt
like a rubber
band snapping back
and surprising me
leaving a sting
where hope should
have been found
things for me
went as planned
things with others
definitely did not
and I stood
there feeling like
a high school
freshman after gym
having just been
snapped with a
towel by the
seniors and wondering
why do they
have to do
this to me
Adventure
A very dear friend
is starting a new
job today at the
young age of sixty
it just confirms that
life is an adventure
and that if anything
we are all but
children on the first
day of school whenever
we start something new
help me to wish
him luck on this
for he like all
of us at one
time or another have
been aboard our ship
embarking to somewhere unknown
while the rest wave
bon voyage from the
safety of the dock

that one sigh
that won’t come
knowing that if
I happened to
then everything else
would be better
but now I
sit here thinking
like the dishrag
on the sink
alone and useless
damp and sour
once having been
