FriendlyLovers

I enjoy my lovers
but cherish my friends
and sometimes if I’m
really lucky they conjoin
that is the birthplace
of relationship ignited by
the flame of love
it’s the full wind
at your back the
extended arms inviting embrace
the turned head and
wave as one departs
and the silent wink-smile
of some inside joke
only two do know
when amongst many others

AlwaysDoes

I didn’t think I
was but I am
I thought by thinking
that I wasn’t then
I really wasn’t but
when in fact and
in reality I am
I am looking for
love again but having
looked for it before
and it not being
true my looking is
now shielded as though
I haven’t yet discovered
the bomb but know
it’s there so I’m
already covering my eyes
Oh please don’t let
it hurt this time
for my body now
is less of me
and more the shrapnel
I’ve absorbed by way
of the previous explosions

Desire

I’m not exactly sure
which comes first the
shiver or the touch
for a shiver only
occurs when the touch
is desired oh sure
goosebumps occur after but
the hope sets up
the touch just like
the listening sets up
the joke and hunger
sets up the eating
shivers happen after desire

DearWhomever

Dear whomever you are
and wherever you may
be I promise you
this we’ll find each
other in most unlikely
ways and unusual circumstances
we will be surprised
not because we did
but because we actually
did oh I know
here I sit musing
no different than giddy
girls leafing through magazines
and falling in love
but this I know
too whomever you are
you are my last
love my best love
the love which will
carry me above and
beyond and into eternity
and this last love
is my forever love
for love like life
is built upon the
shoulders of many other
failures standing the tallest
and burning the brightest

FirstAndForever

When I think of
Paris I think of
you sitting there across
the garden and amidst
the rhododendrons and hydrangeas
sipping on an aperitif
You looked so confident
minding your own business
But I being American
I interjected I interrupted
your solace by asking
would you join me
I meant for dinner
You meant for life
So here we are
