AmI

Am I
too bitter
to love
have I
heard this
joke so
often that
I know
the punchline
before delivery
are my
arms too
tired to
hold and
knees too
sore to
lift and
feet too
to old
to dance
I will
just sit
and watch
and remember
when I
once did

LikeCoffee

You happened upon me
like that first sip
of hot coffee on
a cold dark morning
eagerly awaited hastily tried
instantly surprised urgently paused
and left to wait
while what was desired
needed to cool down
now you patiently blew
like first time birthday
cake children to candles
to cool me and
I agreed happily waiting
knowing that once ready
you would enjoy me

Beast

Something broken
now free
to roam
maybe run
unsure where
but certainly
towards what
yearning longing
breathing breathless
gulping air
and growling
this could
be water
it could
be fury
but definitely
it’s desire
a beast
once free
never found

Broken

Sitting here thinking
more like recalling
how I traced
your lips with
my fingers up
and down and
all around watching
your eyes smile
it was quiet
then as you
turned away shyly
and me asking
is something wrong
after a moment
you turned back
it was then
when your lips
said what your
eyes just did
it was then
right then when
we both knew
that this new
day had broken

MyDearLad

But remember that you
are twenty-seven years old
you have a whole
lot of life left
to live I’m on
the opposite side of
that timeline most of
my life has already
been lived resulting in
memories your job is
to make your own
whereas mine is to
remember those I’ve made
