ThisIsChristmas 🎄⛄️🦃

An explosion of

Brightly colored paper

Rivers of ribbon

Waterfalling over the

Tables edge steaming

And cooling hot

Cocoa bobbing with

Gooey melting marshmallows

A cacophony of

Laughter echoing across

Beams and ugly

Sweaters aromas swirling

Like sirens freshly

Sprung from Pandora’s

Box tickle and

Taunt and tease

Pulling the hungry

And hopeful into

The kitchen hoping

To touch taste

And try spicy and

Sweet and savory

Delicacies as bourbon

And brandy and

Beer pops pleases

And pickles the

Familiar family frolickers

WhatIDo

Americans believe that

What you do

Is more important

Than who you

Are when I’m

Asked what I

Do I simply

Say that I’m

A poet playwright

But what do

You do I

Reply this way

I love and

Then I fail

At loving and

Then I ache

Then I purge

Spewing this heartbreak

Into poems and

Through the mouths

Of characters in

The hopes that

I can either

Prevent or remind

That loving and

Heartbreak are universal

And not personal

Yes he says

But what do

You really do

Some dogs are

Simply not going

To roll over

No matter how

Often that you

Wave your hand

HumorLights 🎄

I do remember

That it started

Like a bubble

Deep down there

Under ground somewhere

Or even maybe

Sometimes high above

Once or twice

I do recall

It happening too

A subtle eek

An infectious smile

Of quiet understanding

I am talking

About humor actually

Which surprises us

As silently quick

As Christmas tree

Lights do when

Once plugged in

Friends (to those I miss)

Funny thing about

Friends you don’t

Need to find

A friend attractive

And you don’t

Need to be

Close to be

Someone’s friend near

Or far ugly

Or pretty friendship

Requires but two

Ingredients to survive

Care and laughter

Call your friend

Today and laugh

They’ll know that

You miss them

HolidayMeaning 🎄

A sweater some

Flannels a pair

Of fuzzy socks

One cup of

Marshmallow bobbing cocoa

A choral classic

Of familiar melodies

Glassy spheres of

Varying size and

Color a box

Full of green

Twinkling spaghetti whose

Plugs are buried

Beneath green blue

Red and yellow

Bulbs a kidnapped

Evergreen standing naked

A kaleidoscope of

Paper and ribbon

One closet stocked

Full of toys

A stack of

Holiday cards filled

With warm greetings

These are what

The holidays always

Mean to me
