SandCastle (to Jay)

Oh we spent

Time building our

Sandcastle with pails

And shovels and

Hands pushing and

Forming and scraping

With gleeful abandon

When one huge

Wave erased everything

Gone now it

Is choose we

Must rebuild it

Or head down

The beach hand

In hand looking

For a safer

Harbor for dreams

Lashing (to Jay)

And then I

Snapped like a

Wet towel growled

And barked like

A junk yard

Dog lunged like

A swamp alligator

And eventually saw

Before me moist

Eyes and tears

Why oh why

Did I do

That to you

And now we

Sit in the

Cold silence like

Late January winters

Frozen in place
