to invest fully

and healthy you

to gnaw off
two paws caught 
in separate traps 
to keep living 
I chose front 
and not rear 
I figured that 
moving forward would 
be better than 
foraging and eating 
I was right 

Most put love 
on a pedestal 
and pursue it
with the verve 
of the holy
grail when in
fact it’s as
common as breathing 
love never wants 
to be a
trophy or prize
love wants more 
than anything else 
to breathe in 
every single breath 
that we take 

Strange this empty 
no hurry to 
fill there is 
something to be 
said sometimes about 
staring into the 
bottom of something 
absent of longing 
aware of time 
and what it
had meant once 

We started our
race together neck
and neck but 
as I gained 
you lagged behind 
I turned to 
look back but 
you had disappeared 
what to do 
where to go 
finish I did
back to the 
paddock you went 
some just aren’t

the long distance
