sleepy quietness 
long before 
anyone else 
wakes up 
and it’s 
just me 
and the 
world making 
coffee and 
our own 
kind of 
peace together 

I find
that now
having less
foreground that 
my eyes
wander to
the mountains 
and wonder 
what if
anything lies
beyond them 
but rather 
than before 
when go
I would 
I’ll stay
here and 
simply see

It’s distance then
that gives time 
an arms length 
or even miles
brings one pause 
to breathe again 
to recover and 
recollect and get 
back in order 
those things tossed
about by torrential 
chaos and confusion 
find your cave
or hut or 
other place and 
sit with yourself 
starting from there 

Funny this
that peace 
while invisible 
is the
strongest shield 
that one 
can carry 
onto the 
battlefield known 
as life

Some settle
others explore
others see
and a
few seek
most take
root while 
others soar
some are
solo and 
others pair
wander or
stay the 
heart sings
solo or
along the 
same song
