Never need
only want 
anything or
anyone for 
needs compromise 
they may
quench they
may sate
but they 
never satisfy 
they cripple 
ones decisions
wants provide 
a perspective 
an either 
and or 
never must

Fence hedge 
or wall
boundaries be
less impediment 
and much 
more challenge
to those 
intent on
getting in
but not 
on staying 

As I stand
high above next 
to the trunk
I peer out 
at the skinny 
branches where once 
was my home 
nest now gone 
just barren fingers 
that reach outwards 
it was there
I learned to 
at last fly
at last found
comfort and calm 
and my way
back to center 

I sometimes wonder 
if the space 
between my thoughts 
and its silence 
is what attracted 
you to me 
the gap between 
where you watched 
me wander away 
and if it’s 
that you wanted 
to come along 
but knew you 
couldn’t and so
quietly stayed behind 
content in hearing 
of my adventures 

The house 
always wins
taking my
attention away
like crickets 
yet unseen 
but heard
chirping away 
this needs
doing and 
that too
and all 
the while 
you stay 
in pajamas 
and repose
