Alone

It’s so funny
this living alone
patters and pace
heard only below
for no other
feet or paws
skitter about vying
for my attention
I hear sounds
of things soldiers
and servants such
are the machines
that willingly serve
and protect me
other than that
it’s just me

Dryer

Another morning silent
broken by machines
past the kitchen
the dryer spins
tapping out code
of toppling buttons
clackity clack click
cleaning and tumbling
oh it’s done
time to fold
holding close warmth
like the hugs
that I remember
from long ago

Away

Oh to not
than to have
I sometimes think
would’ve been better
for this now
knowing that once
it was so
close makes this
far farther away

Kindness

I don’t have
much but what
I do have
I’m happy to
share and isn’t
that what the
good Lord said
and those in
power who have
so very much
choose to strangle
rather than support
power isn’t strong
power is selfish
kindness is selfless

Granted

Taking anything
for granted
is like
biting into
a meal
left in
the fridge
too long
it still
looks good
but sadly
turned sour
and no
matter how
or what
it’ll never
taste like
it did
