I awoke early
To sit outside
And listen to
The world awaken
First came birdsongs
Then the stirring
Of critters snapping
Twigs car tire
Sounds on pavement
And at long
Last the sun
A quiet time
This morning as
Day starts sleepily
In my town
I awoke early
To sit outside
And listen to
The world awaken
First came birdsongs
Then the stirring
Of critters snapping
Twigs car tire
Sounds on pavement
And at long
Last the sun
A quiet time
This morning as
Day starts sleepily
In my town
I dip my
Hand into the
River you are
Feel your current
Feel your cold
Then lay languidly
On flat rocks
Sunning myself in
Your smile warming
At first you
Were the espresso
Hot slightly bitter
Smooth and small
Now years later
We’ve outgrown that
Now we’re a
Concoction of things
Some silky some
Steamy a dollop
Of this that
Now hangs on
Lips causing laughter
We are now
Our little lattes
Sprinkled with the
Spice we are
Like a child
Books in hand
I sit waiting
Tapping and wondering
If I’m forgotten
Like a dog
By the gate
Watching for the
School bus crest
The hill yonder
Hoping it’s soon
Like the driver
Caught running late
In snarly traffic
Watching his watch
Time slipping by
This is me
Rapunzel in tower
Dreaming of that
One thing that
Will rescue me
Not from what
I am but
Will make me
Surely what I
I could be
The aroma wafts
Through my house
Like the sweet
Melodies of music
Teasing me with
Sun its shyness
Begins to break
Beneath sparse clouds
Like the eggs
Now frying white
And yellow as
I stretch like
A lazy cat
Cup in hand
I wait like
A Christmas child
For the presents
Promised this day
