The buildings of downtown
stand like guards in
full coronation regalia patient
immovable and at attention
Fog hangs about their
shoulders like dusty applets
the light from windows
shining like hundreds of
tiny polished brass buttons
all huddled together leaning
one against the other
like drunken sailor revelers
in port on leave
waiting for the military
police to sweep them
up like boozy rubbish
and pour them back
aboard their heaving ships
Category: Morning
COMorn
The foothills are laid
out in front of
me like lounging calico
cats speckled by cloudy
sunlight that dots highlights
and shadows different parts
of the same coat
Boulder to the north
Golden way out west
Pueblo down south ring
Denver like the halos
of the Rockies angels
Start
The early morning starts
with windows of far
off downtown buildings drowsily
blinking like your eyes
do upon rolling over
seeing me smiling at
you as you inch
closer to me reaching
for my coffee cup
ignoring me completely as
I quickly snap shut
my arms around you
like vines of Ivy
trapping you in dawns
very early love embrace
Pearl
The sky resembles
the lining of
an oyster shell
streaks of pink
and blue and
white and gray
and even orange
and I wonder
if our world
is a pearl
cradled in the
cosmic azure ether
Sunrise
It’s interesting to me
that the buildings man
have made reflect sunrise
making them eerily glow
like ghosts absent souls
but the mountains remain
dark and patiently quiet
thankfully awaiting their turn
for Heaven to nod
like souls in purgatory
