If only life
was as easy
as child’s play
I have me
have me not
plucking of petals
of starting somewhere
ending somewhere else
excited by prospect
acceptance at end
given to fate
and it is
and when like
children we dislike
the outcome of
our haphazard plucking
we simply pick
another flower and
some of us
lay waste to
an entire field
in a desperate
hope to find
that perfect one

Cigars
And so uncle Manny
smoked cigars and whenever
at the age of
three we visited their
home in Port Washington
I remember opening the
door and being struck
by that manly associated
aroma followed by my
Aunt Jeanette’s arms and
Tippy’s cold wet nose
Cigars then became to
me and continue to
do the odor of
family and love and
of support for while
my own family life
was abysmal filled with
hate bigotry and ignorance
there in Port Washington
and with the cigars
came love and affection
WomenGirls
And I’m sitting here
with four generations of
women and as surprising
as to me being
a man they appear
to be just girls
girls talking about girls
things painting their nails
and hairstyles and dresses
I don’t think that
I can describe just
how cute and beautiful
they all really are
BeIt
It takes but one
spark to brighten rooms
be it smile laugh
or love be it
embrace meal or bed
be it sunlight or
moon glow or star
be it kindness or
caring or even respect
It only ever takes
just one thing to
ignite almost everything else
be that one thing
be it every moment
every day of your
always bright beautiful life
HeavensLanguage (for Bean)
Bean told me today
that his little brother
at the wise age
of three admitted his
happiness was because he
loved Bean that’s truth
I reminded Bean for
only three year olds
speak nothing but innocent
truths which by the
way is the same
language spoken in Heaven
