Lollipop

This morning’s sky

Is a robins egg

Pale blue outside

With white edges

Where it cracked

The East glows

An iridescent white

While cool night

Retreats far west

Dipping its shadow

Behind the cypresses

The vibrant rich

Colors of day

Remain still muted

Sleepiness calm like

The last dream

I just had

Hangs like netting

I bathe nighttime

But dawn each

And every dawn

Brings to me

The same sweet

First taste of

A new lollipop

SecondMoon (to You)

What is unimportant

To me is

Who I am

For I know

Important however is

You for you

I don’t know

You are the

Second moon in

My sky and

Upon you only

I can gaze

You are only

There when I

See you as

All others cannot

That is simply

How special you

Are to me

SomethingYou (to Us)

Without love desire

Is but veneer

Applied cheaply and

Thin giving the

Appearance of beauty

Ah but love

Love is walnut

Hickory and cherry

Dense heavy rich

Able to withstand

Even strong hammers

And often sculpted

Into long lasting

Things of beautifulness

On its own

Look for me

And find me

Take me home

And create me

Into something you

TwoThings (to Us)

Appearing to be

Like the sun

Two things happening

When we are

Together almost always

First the spring

Following the winter

The unexpected blossoms

Of our smiles

Budding and stretching

Across our faces

And then the

Cloudbursts of laughter

The simple downpour

Of saturating happiness

CicadaSummer

Oh and again

The gnawing started

That sweet cicada

Song of summer

That raspy buzzing

Sound that takes

Me all the

Way back then

Remember those days

Those melodious memories

Cocktails and stars

And those fireworks

Off the pier

Many years ago

All those were

Long before we

Ever even knew

Who we were

Or would become

Separate each other

Dogged summer days

As brittle as

All the photographs

Kept in books

All those days

So long ago
