Poems live like
Life they blink
And inhale exhale
And sigh sometimes
Roaring while at
Others weeping they
Are my children
Gaining friends on
Their own triumphs
And heartbreak theirs
One day they
Will all breathe
On their own
Poems live like
Life they blink
And inhale exhale
And sigh sometimes
Roaring while at
Others weeping they
Are my children
Gaining friends on
Their own triumphs
And heartbreak theirs
One day they
Will all breathe
On their own
Lovers are like
Newspapers crisp a
Bit fragile and
Temporary read once
But you Muenster
You’re like my
Favorite book highlighted
And dog eared
Used and read
At the ready
When comfort is
Needed or like
The oak under
Which I nap
On lazy summer
Afternoons your canopy
Outstretched protecting me
I have discovered
That as long
As I’m living
I am learning
Sometimes it’s joyful
And sometimes painful
Change can hurt
And often does
Reaching for sun
Or the stars
Stretching and touching
Them can burn
But that’s life
Isn’t it really
Holidays are cruel
Too many memories
Of love curdled
Long lost ornaments
Yellowed wrapping paper
And time tinged
Ribbon joy and
Gleeful laughter now
Go silent fallen
In love married
Now all gone
One last hurdle
In loves steeplechase
Our anniversary will
It trip me
Sending me once
Again to stumble
Or will I
Clear it finally
And trot on
You can’t understand
Don’t expect to
Just know this
Sometimes in life
Life gives you
The one thing
You don’t need
And challenges you
Make it yours
That’s my Christmas
Wish to you
