Classroom

When young I believed

That I was chalk

Creating and discovering newness

At middle age I

Learned that I was

Erasers wiping away unnecessary

Ideas making room for

More upon retiring I

Discovered that I was

The blackboard upon which

Ideas dreams were written

And finally now I

Understand that I am

Just a classroom in

Which the lessons of

Life have been learned

Weave

What I do know

About love is that

Love is the fabric

Of the Universe and

That each time that

You love someone else

You are picking up

Another thread with which

To weave your life

America

It’s with a heavy

Heart that I admit

That I am scared

Breakups are never easy

Yet here we are

Once had now gone

I will miss you

And what you promised

I did love you

But then you cheated

With the one that

You promised to avoid

You promised me that

Never shall we mingle

And yet you did

I should’ve expected it

Seduction is always sweet

Until the apple bitters

And it always does

Immortality

Don’t waste your life

Pursuing fame for immortality

Resides in the hearts

And minds of those

Who will survive you

Be the talk of

The campfire be the

Story and laughter at

The holiday bring joy

To others now it’ll

Still be there long

After you are gone

ComingOut (to Jay)

So you said it

You told the truth

Why you asked me

Is being yourself so

Hard because the world

Doesn’t understand things that

It simply can’t accept

As normal when normal

Isn’t what they do

So you said it

To families and friends

That you are gay

And now your little

Corner of the world

Knows what normal really

Is because you are
