Deja vu all 
over again like 
some merry go 
round I never 
wanted to ride
if I’m going 
to end up 
alone then why
not remain alone 
and cut out 
the middle man 

There have been 
plenty of days 
when I didn’t 
and would have 
preferred to do 
anything else but
and I’ve learned 
over the years 
on those days 
is precisely when 
one absolutely must 
sing and dance 
and paint and 
write and love 

Sometimes days go 
doing little else 
and then nights 
at last come 
and everything slows
just like gum
that after awhile 
loses its flavor 
but still manages 
to make bubbles 

The arrogant man 
thinks that he 
knows everything and
the humble man 
knows that he 
doesn’t know anything 
one is full
but not with 
questions and one 
is empty with 
only the answers 

Fate is what 
you get when 
you deny yourself 
of your destiny 
it takes a 
strong person to 
do so that 
is tempt fate 
but it takes 
an even stronger 
person to decide 
to defeat it
