Never mistaken looks
For character for
Looks are simply
A reflection of
Something that once
Was but character
Is the back
Upon which everything
Else is carried
Never mistaken looks
For character for
Looks are simply
A reflection of
Something that once
Was but character
Is the back
Upon which everything
Else is carried
I am saddened
By my epiphany
Many people think
That the ah-ha
Means that whatever
That it was
Is now behind
No it’s not
What an epiphany
Or any ah-ha
Ever really is
Is nothing more
Grand than stubbing
Your big toe
In the darkness
Admitting to yourself
That you knew
All along that
That was there
I leave things behind
I do admit that
So so many things
So many in fact
That people become things
Too it’s not that
I wish to or
Want to or even
That I need to
I just do I
Guess because leaving things
All of these things
That I leave behind
Is because they belong
Where I found them
And frankly they’re not
Mine to take anywhere
I leave them there
Letting others find them
Just like I did
The problem with us
Meeting there not here
Is that there isn’t
Either you or I
It’s someone else’s else
Here is where I
Am and you’re there
Where you are and
Well that other place
Isn’t either of us
So how can we
Possibly be us in
A place that’s neither
There was this one
Time under the sycamore
You were above me
On one elbow and
Looking down and just
As a late August
Breeze blew your flaxen
Hair from your face
At that same moment
The low afternoon sun
Caught the corner of
One of your eyes
And there then inside
I did see the
Deep blue pool of
Your soul and to
It’s bottom where I
Saw you swimming throughout
The eons of your
Lives and right then
I knew that like
Now we’d been together
And then taking my
Hand you said come
Swim with me and
I said just like
We’ve done so many
Times before and you
Said um yeah sure
It was that day
That I knew then
That only some of
Us are lucky enough
To remember the pasts
