It’s early morning 
heat season here 
in the Rockies 
just enough to 
take off chill 
as I scoop
pour and stir 
after all leaving 
warmth of down 
to make something 
hot in the 
dark cold dawn 
seems a tad
daft even for 
this old timer

Expectation is 
the assassin 
of joy
with disappointment 
hiding in 
the woods
taking aim
and waiting 
patiently until 
the heart
becomes exposed 
to take 
its shot

Don’t ask 
for advice 
find solutions 
opinions vary 
do you 
go to 
a restaurant 
with hopes 
of finding 
something that 
you like 
or do
you go
to eat

So many things 
don’t really matter 
namely big things 
for all of 
the big things 
are made up 
of little things 
quietly woven together 
so focus upon 
the small for
they make all 

My life
is where
I choose 
to hide
not from 
the fear
of others 
but in
the peace 
I find
war all
you want 
everyone else 
but here 
with me 
is myself 
and that
is enough
