I have met
a young man
who despite youth
despises the transactional
nature of things
nowadays including love
how has this
need for immediacy
replaced the need
for someone’s forever
he recently asked
replying I said
most I think
have no wish
to build foundations
but rather fill
the crumbling mortar
with anything usable
be it body
or even waste
to fend off
the surging bloodlust
of today’s desire

To laugh
at what
most find
is funny
is easy
to laugh
at what
most find
is not
is courage
it’s courage
not crazy
for only
those incapable
of courage
call all
those other
things and
people that
do crazy
Remotely
I was set
to die four
times but didn’t
instead I was
given other chances
to do things
my story is
not that unusual
what might be
though is laughter
for once one
has had talks
with the reaper
little else that
this world tosses
your way can
ever be taken
as remotely serious
Nonsense
I will
go on
whether merrily
or sad
neither which
is yours
to say
for your
part in
this nonsensical
senseless nonsense
is over
the rest
is up
to me
Caring
It’s not that
I don’t care
it’s just that
it’s this thing
that’s called caring
has caused me
my own misery
I can barely
swim by myself
how can I
swim with you
a choice then
to be made
do I go
under with you
or swim to
save only myself
letting you choose
one or another
to the deep
or the shallow
