HowWeSee

From my apartment window
everything always appears smaller
The gas station skyscrapers
and even the mountains
look like they are
pieces on a board
game it’s called perspective
Now if only I
could see my feelings
thusly rather than the
monsters which hide in
closets and under beds
I guess those things
closer are always scarier

Hamster

I don’t feel well
Oddly enough it’s not
from a broken heart
Oh I know surprise
I guess we all
at one time or
another just get tired
of spinning around the
same treadmill expecting different
results when in fact
what we should do
is step off and
quietly be the little
happy hamster tucked way
back in the corner

ItTakesWork

We are just gardeners
Planting and pruning this
relationship and that adjusting
light and warmth promoting
and prompting and protecting
It’s an arduous task
especially difficult for those
without thumbs much less
green the love is
not in the finding
or even the planting
the love is in
the maintaining of such
things as plants and
just about damn near
anything you take home

Hat (for Jadon)

I love hats
I have many
I often carry
several with me
throughout my day
I have my
writer hat and
my lover hat
my goofball hat
which is a
beanie with propeller
I have my
dunce hat complete
with pink chagrin
Oh then there’s
my cigar smoking
Daddy hat allowing
me to smolder
But my favorite
hat of all
is no hat
But no one
ever sees me
then for I
am delightedly invisible

EverAgainEver

I do remember
Of course I
remember I remember
fondly but not
longingly time has
severed that connection
like a prisoner
pulling his chain
free from post
sending him somewhere
anywhere else but
there where misery
pain and suffering
occurred once love
had souringly curdled
I have rinsed
my mouth of
you and wiped
my lips clean
but yes I
do remember of
course I remember
I never lost
the taste of
you but I
doubt that I
will enjoy you
ever again ever
