I know now that
this is my time
to be absolutely still
To watch to listen
to contemplate to understand
To absorb like a
kitchen sponge to hold
and then to rinse
sending all the garbage
down the drain out
of sight to dry
and be used again
If there is one
thing a writer is
it’s a kitchen sponge
Inspiration is nothing more
than a mess to
be wiped and rinsed
Author: Harlan Didrickson
I first started writing this blog as a way to refocus my thinking after a debilitating mental breakdown in 2008. Having been educated in writing, I had hoped that my love for words would have left a trail for me to follow and, well, here we are.
Ghost
I simply don’t understand
the cloak of invisibility
that I now wear
It is not that
I’m used to being
the center of attention
but noticed most certainly
It’s like I’ve died
spending all my time
wandering around the world
seeing but not being
seen perhaps this time
is my time to
observe feel and write
like a scribe noting
and not really doing
Perhaps this is my
time of constant understanding
and contribution to life
FindingLove
Am I too old
to find love again
Is the discovery of
love reserved for the
young and foolhardy who
skip leap and bound
headlong with nary a
care about tomorrow or
is love reserved for
middle age like a
table for two in
a fancy bistro next
to a window offering
sights of Parisians passing
while sipping a Cabernet
Where do the old
find love once again
Perhaps love for people
like me is found
on narrow orchard paths
in late Autumn amidst
plump apple trees basking
in what’s left of
summer’s warmth and remembering
what foolishness love was
Life
Spinning and spinning around
and so goes life
twirling dancing and throwing
as cavalierly as fall
leaves as insignificant as
snow flurries and bumping
into each other like
revelers in mosh pits
This is this thing
that we call life
No rhyme nor reason
although we try to
assign it some degree
of significance but really
all that is constant
is the waltz that
we see every day
between sun and moon
TreeTalk (for Bean)
And Bean asked me
what tree do you
think that you are
Replying I said the
river willow offering shade
and comfort to travelers
capable of moving yet
remaining strong against winds
And you Bean what
tree might you be
A mature mango tree
specifically a Mangifera tree
for they have deliciously
sweet fruit and provide
plenty of shade and
anything is welcome to
come feast on me
Huh if only you
knew Bean that we
and me already have
