Intruder

Day first peeks
in from the
high bathroom window
Ms. Orchids lair
and moves around
the corner of
the building like
some cat burglar
looking for an
easy way in
greeting it on
my balcony my
feet step on
its apricot fingers
clinging from below
time to go
get some coffee

Still Life (for the guys)

Bowls nestled
nicely together
sit quietly
atop a
table found
at some
yard sale
likely overpriced
but does
one ever
wonder what
the frame
is worth
that surrounds
a moment
in time

Run

Sometimes despite
a gate
those who
have running
in their
blood look
for a
hole in
the fence
and don’t
stop until
they either
find or
make one
you can’t
keep things
in that
want to
get out

Nuts

Squirreled away
like some
errant nut
found beneath
a tree
I wait
and wait
for snow
to fall
and his
abrupt return
but what
chance do
I have
when surrounded
by so
many other
assorted nuts
to be
dinner or
a tree

Pot

I drilled holes
into the bottom
of the pot
to drain water
but no sooner
did I do
that weeds found
their way in
funny how they
can do that
looking for every
little chance to
take over the
little pot that
I have planted
I guess that
the only way
to keep the
weeds away is
by not being
a pretty flower
