ModernHermit

And now sitting
here I realize
why I haven’t
met anyone here
yet in Denver
I am to
reflect upon myself
absent from distraction
much like the
hermit tucked inside
of a cave
atop the mountain
I have the
mountain part handled
being a mile
above sea level
but the cave
not so much
for here I
enjoy the creature
comforts of modernity

WordWalk

I must go
the words await
like a dog
standing near door
leash in mouth
waiting to walk
they won’t stop
until we go
on our little
walk into imagination
where at last
they will explore
and discover things
that I cannot
even though I’m
looking at the
same exact thing

Truth

When facing truth
whatever it is
it is usually
at first silent
a gnawing sigh
which hardly erupts
but often escapes
like the fizz
from a fresh
bottle of pop
a slow sss
announcing to you
that you have
at last lanced
that painful boil
and now are
ready to heal
telling of others
is less important
now than ever

BatterBall

What I think
matters much less
than what others
do it’s not
the batter who
scores the home
run but it’s
the ball the
batter simply swings
the batter could
swing and swing
for an eternity
but without the
ball there’s nothing
all our perceptions
are nothing but
bats yet the
ball belongs to
the collective consciousness

. . .

I came to
Denver to write
well actually no
I came to
Denver to be
alongside of Rick
who was there
when writing began
decades and decades
ago and the
image which always
comes to mind
when I think
of our friendship
is the ellipse
you know the
dot dot dot
the first dot
and the last
being interchangeable actually
him or I
and the middle
being almost anything
else life love
love life triumphs
and or tragedies
we are but
each others bookends
keeping whatever else
ever happens between
us two just
a couple of
dots with another
dot any dot
in the middle
