Hope

Hope crawls
it tickles
never taunts
always teases
it giggles
seldom cries
often laughs
frequently warms
and never
fails to
kiss goodbye
when leaving
knowing it’ll
be back
when needed

FinallySpring

The darkness of mood
like a woolen blanket
has at last lifted
and the possibility of
love has begun to
finally show the sun
of hope slowly warms
the ice that has
surrounded the edge of
the pond I am
Crawling out of the
bed of my despair
and onto the floor
of my bitter loneliness
I at last throw
open the curtains of
my withering wilting heart
and feel the heat
touch my sleepy soul
calling welcome to spring

Hole

Sometimes I think
while sitting here
and taking stock
of a marvelous
life that I
have enjoyed far
more than most
and I should
be satisfied yet

I long and
ache for had
for once had
now missed and
missing is worse
than not having
for missing causes
an emptiness once
filled by something

Often wondering if
a hole knows
that it’s empty
before it’s filled
or if perhaps
an empty hole
is happier then
when absent anything

Knowing

One of the hardest
things you’ll ever decide
is what you want
Oh we know what
we always dream about
who we’ll be with
and where we’ll live
and how famous and
rich we will be
But those are dreams
What we want questions
often begin to surface
when what we have
is beginning to fall
short fade and crumble
A friend of mine
once suggested that rather
than trying to decide
what we want instead
admit what we don’t
just like when I
have struggled with the
notion that God is
everything which brings with
it lots of thinking
whereas thinking that God
is also nothing brings
with that idea peace
think less to know

Joyce’sKitchen

In my neighborhood
there’s a mother
to more than
her daughter she’s
a mother to
whomever is hungry
be they Crips
or Bloods and
in her kitchen
on Sunday evenings
they put away
their guns and
differences and eat
I think that
they then realized
as do I
that despite being
enemies on street
when in home
and specifically kitchen
we are indeed
one big family
