Cast

At some point
Nothing is better
Than shitty somethings
I will never
Live up to
Anyone else’s expectations
I didn’t audition
So don’t cast
Me in the
Part of the
Hero in this
Your own fantasy

Yesterday

And in one day
Poof it was over
Two its actually a
Day of obliteration and
Decimation as though a
Tiny invisible gas leak
Found its way to
A flame and boom
Now on my own
Once again on my
Own surprisingly similar and
Familiar on my own
I am left with
Nothing but persistent me
The glory of being
Alone I have found
Is that’s there’s no
One else to blame
But before the explosion
Someone and not me
Left the burner on
And another struck the
Match now leaving nothing

TellingOnMyself

Here is my problem
I saw my share
Of action on my
Battlefield of life having
Learned a long time
Ago that whatever I
Do or don’t do
Is up to me
I have at odd
Times awakened face down
Breathing in mud and
Blood and slowly risen
Amidst the carnage of
My campaigns witness to
Destruction at my hands
But now I don’t
Know how to undo
My lifetime of certainty
And accept that in
These now peaceful times
There are simple things
I simply don’t know
How to do where
Are the trumpets where
Are the men where
Are the victories what
I’m left with is
Bathing and laundry and
Sweeping and groceries and
The quiet life afforded
To the commander of
This my destructive life

Dreams

Oh if someone hadn’t
Already then you never could
Your dreams are borne
On the backs of
Others who have already
Tried and likely failed
Dreams are only as
Good as the stories
That came before them
For hope is nothing
More than the possibility
Of promises for better

GiveMeWrinkles

I wonder why
Two different pairs
Of eyes either
Adore or avoid
I have been
Found to be
Handsome by most
But here in
Denver I’m overlooked
And overpicked over
And over again
What they fail
To understand is
With my wrinkles
Also comes a
Roadmap of adventure
Of advice and
Admiration not for
Me but for
All those others
Whom I have
Take the young
With their dreams
And their futures
Give me wrinkles
For it’s wrinkles
That tells me
Something has been
Already worn has
Already served purpose
And master and
Has survived to
Tell its story
For stories are
What dreams have
Been made of
