Book

Today eight years
post I’m finished
I have taken
the last blow
severing what little
was left of
that thing then
it is monumental
this but of
very little fanfare
nothing more remarkable
really than closing
a book and
sliding it slowly
alongside all of
the other manuscripts
which up to
now made up
the library of
my marvelous life

Mornings

I let sun
wake me today
like the fingers
of a teasing
lover laying near
no need to
rise early today
for in peace
there’s no time
no need nor
reason to hurry
for no one
waits here long
for nothing comes
but just is

Games

I will find
my joy in
other things besides
people for most
play silly games
with rules of
their own making
designed to assure
they always win
and I will
always be cast
in the role
of the loser
for every game
regardless requires both

Argue

If I wanted
to argue I’d
find a rock
or a stick
for they cannot
if I wanted
to love I’d
rather not it
be a rock
or a stick
for that which
I love must
never hear anger
for the heart
has no ears

Storms

Clouds are building
out west above
the mountains where
the cold air
of peaks meets
the hot air
of the plains
like so many
dinners when I
was a child
where the anger
of my father
infused with brandy
met the cold
shouldered stare of
my mother and
the worst storms
one could imagine
erupted into the
tears of blood
lust and fury
