This absence of 
is not loneliness 
it is peace 
and the scratching 
of my pursuits 
have given way 
to silence as
though my very 
life has become 
one long sigh
and I wonder 
as I watch 
everyone scurry around 
don’t they know 
that the very
thing they chase
isn’t out there 
but in there
if only they’d 
take a peek 

I only wanted 
a few things 
all of which 
I have gotten 
love friends laughter
simple things really 
the best part 
is that all 
comes with each 

It’s when now
and not if
for the if
stopped long ago 
and the when 
is always enough 
to carry me 
for the when 
is what catches 
me by surprise 
almost as if

Discover is different 
from found discover
is the result 
of looking for 
one thing and 
finding another while 
found is looking 
for and finding 
what was left
discover heralds new 
while found old 
me I am 
a discoverer leaving 
found for dead 

Some days I 
don’t feel poetic 
and if I 
was a car
I’d be driving 
with headlights on
