WhatWho (for Jay)

My dear boy

Please remember that

There’s a difference

Between the what

And the who

The what when

Done enough like

All things grows

Old and weary

But the who

Oh the who

Remains ageless and

Always always new

Darkness

And as is

Usual when the

Dark seems darkest

A hand by

Way of a

Hello reaches out

Simple and innocent

Like the first

Leaf of Autumn

To fall it

Lands softly on

The hand reminding

You that you

Are not alone

It is the

Darkness that is

DripDripDrip

And now we

Are a diminishing

Drip drip drip

After months of

Monsoons after months

Of downpours after

Months of thunder

What remains is

But tiny splashes

In an overflowing

Cistern adding nothing

But more to

Lose maybe to

Water what’s next

October

And today starts

The firework display

Mountains and valleys

Erupting in orange

Bronze and amber

The days saturated

With warmth and

The nights cool

With Autumnal chill

Soon the leaves

Will leap like

Paratroopers spinning and

Landing crunching with

Every step as

The forest floor

Prepares for winter

BriskCharlotte

The morn starts

Chilly like dipping

My hand into

A bag of

Ice scurrying in

With the days

Paper like my

Pup seeking warmth

I grasp my

Cup of coffee

Watching the steam

Rise like sirens

Calling seafarer towards

Rocks I slowly

Sip like children

In Wisconsin lake

Cabins gazing at

Autumn’s exploding color

Enjoying this early

Brisk Charlotte day
