Stoplight
In my town
when I was
young we had
this one intersection
a four-way stop
manners were then
a complete stop
looking both ways
giving a nod
and a smile
and sometimes even
an after you
then they installed
a stop light
telling one when
to stop and
when to go
and just like
most of life
and of love
the exact moment
one is told
that they can’t
they always do
we had more
accidents and fatalities
people speeding through
manners now gone
life with it

lot of life left
to live I’m on
the opposite side of
that timeline most of
my life has already
been lived resulting in
memories your job is
to make your own
whereas mine is to
remember those I’ve made

that breaking up
is like dying
but it is
in one aspect
When someone is
ready to go
they often stay
not for themselves
but for others
the kindest thing
that anyone can
ever do for
anyone else is
let them go
when they’re ready
don’t hang on
causing them to
that’s called damnation
