I don’t sleep enough
The night frightens. Me
An unusually warm winter
Beneath my heavy blanket
I huddle like mice
Waiting for it to
Break into the day
I don’t sleep enough
The night frightens. Me
An unusually warm winter
Beneath my heavy blanket
I huddle like mice
Waiting for it to
Break into the day
Because we know each
Other and love what
We know but with
No hope there is
No tomorrow and only
A series of today’s
The end came and
Went with a whimper
Reason outweighed even hope
What we thought wasn’t
And what we had
Didn’t and wouldn’t be
And so like gentlemen
Pushing away from the
Table with cognac cigars
And negotiations we began
To divvy up the
Spoils of loves war
Setting new borders new
Expectations and new policies
And how now we
Will address those remaining
To live in a
Country now called Ex
It is often said
The more you mourn
The longer they stay
Moored to this earth
By the weight of
Your sorrow unchain their
Pain and attach balloons
Of joy and happiness
Letting them float away
As high as the
Sky and well beyond
Sitting here and crying
Not really truly knowing
Wondering why thinking how
If leaving was easier
Than staying if ever
Between then and now
They asked what if
Is there such a
Thing as choice then
Or do we all
Just ride the same
Bus to the end
Of the same line
