MorningHere

The day starts

Freshly like the

Intoxicating aroma of

Eggs bacon coffee

Awakening me from

Sweet dreams of

The arms of

My past lovers

Shielding me like

Armor from the

Ravages of life

Messages arrive from

You like long

Awaited letters tickling

Me like that

Cold quarry lake

Outside of Pittsburgh

Where we cautiously

Dipped our toes

Before leaping headlong

Just like sipping

A cup of

Joe before work

Brandon

Here next to

Me lays a

Plank of ebony

Sanded smooth with

Knots of knowing

And age dark

And rich slightly

Bitter like a

Cup of black

Coffee deep as

The moonless night

Except for two

Twinkling eye stars

Drawing me deeper

Into your universe

Relationship

At first we

Were like a

Freshly saddled stallion

Rearing up on

Haunches bucking struggling

To throw off

The harness of

The new relationship

Slowly we loped

Around the paddock

Adjusting then past

The gates of

Loyalty we gained

Speed finally at

Full stride we

Gallop now free

Now comfortable with

This new freedom

Morning

Day starts quietly

Like Loon Lake

That one summer

Years ago just

Us a fire

Lightening bugs and

Secrets melodies remind

Me of love

Awakening like high

School prom when

I first kissed

Steam rises from

My coffee cup

Like the smoke

From the blown

Out candles right

Before you led

Me to bed

Remembering9/11

We shovel heaps

And heaps of

Travesties upon each

Other burying one

Another beneath anger

If we are

Created in His

Image is God

Also hateful or

Has humanity devolved

So far away

From Spirit that

Meanness and agenda

Affords pain and

Torture instead of

Looking at these

Travesties as representative

Of the Divine

Let us remember

That these shovels

Of inhumanity are

Merely dark soil

Upon which the

Blossoms of hope

Do spring eternal

Here remembering 9/11
