Goodbye

I wonder if maybe
This time it’ll stick
Like the late April
Snows which blanket with
Heavy wet large snowflakes
As if nature is
Doling out double portions
Maybe this time will
Be the last time
I mean how many
Goodbyes does it take
For something to be
Over finally over finished
How many coats of
Paint does it take
To hide the blemishes
And the ugly scars
Just how much makeup
Will make bruises disappear
If I keep going
Back like the deer
To the now naked
Branches doesn’t that make
Me look like the
Fool like the despot
This one last final
Goodbye must be the
Spring for so many
Believe that loneliness is
Winter but limping love
Is lonelier than snow
Which does eventually stay

Cleave

And with one quick
Blow my heart of
Which I was certain
Has been cleaved in
Half one side dying
And the other pumping
How does one say
Goodbye to one part
And hello to another
Even at my age
I sit and wonder
Even though this has
Happened before I still
Sit wondering not if
But when my one
Heart will be enough
For just eventually one

Thaw

And then the thaw
Arrived upon the gutters
Of my winter home
The low warm sun
At first focusing upon
Icicles in the form
Of interest and laughter
Which caused a drip
Drip drip then streaks
Against the hearts windowpane
The chill of winter
Giving way to the
Promise of the spring
Of affection and touch
Of eyes and smiles
And the long forgotten
Warmth of a body
Waking up close to
Mine next to me

SoGoes

Over and over again
I am so reminded
That when I look
I never do find
But when I sit
Patiently waiting things come
Much like geese on
The pond when approached
They scatter and flee
But when left alone
They seek out me
So also goes love

Wick (for Jadon)

And he wanted light
From within his darkness
But the flame wouldn’t
Reach the burnt wick
For it had already
Burned already given that
Which it had to
Give and now older
Sat as something else
Besides what it was
Meant to be until
Imagination trust and ingenuity
Fashioned a longer flame
Bringing both the candle
And the man back
To their own magic
