Seedlings (for Darryl)

To me people I
See on the apps
Are seedlings full of
Promise but wholly unable
To bear any fruit
And when there are
So many I know
That few will become
Anything because most will
Get trampled beneath the
Hooves of the unaware
And of the selfish

Life

And as I watch
The eastern horizon lighten
While sleepily scoop pour
And percolate the coffee
In this moment of
Dawn I am reminded
What life really means
It’s the little things
All the little things
Like sunrise and coffee
And kissing you awake
That makes my life
To me worth living

LaughterReturned

I am now ready
To finally once again
Smile and laugh at
My life’s folly it’s
Hard to laugh sometimes
At ones stupidity when
Stupidity turns into life
But like winter if
One waits long enough
Even glaciers begin to
Thaw bringing back though
Scarred ones precious humor

Rain

And then it came
News like drought rains
At first dropping then
Dripping and finally running
This news whilst welcome
Yielded floods and torrents
The power to change
Dry creek beds into
Rivers and better lives
Returning me to harvest
After three long years
Of cloud gathering hope
Yesterday it finally rained

Compass

Don’t judge
Me by
My face
For my
Face is
But a
Map showing
The places
I’ve been
But rather
Hold my
Heart for
It is
My compass
Pointing to
Where I
Shall always
Go next
