Sunset (for Robin)

Gray skies
have cleared
like a storm
over Wyoming
my mind is
clear like a
brook
in Colorado
my fears have
fled the truths
like grouse
flying from
bird dogs
in South Dakota

What I’m
left with
is a sunset
over Wikiki

Images (for Juan)

Your shoulder
a cap of skin
like velveteen
in cinnamon
protects
the snake like
tendons
which run
down your
arms
like rivers

your waist
an amalgamation
of muscles
sits square
at your middle
like armor

your flank
which flexes
by my touch
is like the haunch
of a stallion

Good Morning

you whispered
into my ear
like a secret
password
this morning
as the sun
crested
the ridge
of your
shoulder
bright
as your
smile
you lifted
up from beneath
me and Kissed
me with night
breath
but even this
aroma was mixed
with your scent
making
a delicious
early
morning
cocktail

Cloudy

It’s overcast
in paradise
today
the sun
is shy
and hiding
behind doors
of gray
cool too
the weather
begs me
to stay
asleep
but I see
nightmares
of you missing
from me

even
my dreams
are overcast

Good Morning (for Juan)

The sun
winked
twice
once
at the moon
and once
at you
as it crested
the ridge
sending
envelopes
of light
across
your chest
as you lay
drowsing
next to
me
nighttime
disappeared
behind
curtains
as you stirred
turning
to me
smiling

good morning
you said
freshly
as though
this morning
was the first
morning

you’d
ever
said
it
