It

It’s avoiding me now
love love is avoiding
me now it skitters
scampers and slides gleefully
teasing and tauntingly away
from me like some
feral cat or spoiled
child calling haha you
can’t catch me stupid
So I mope I sit
and I mope singing
woe is me and
I swear off this
obnoxious game of tag
for even in tag
sometimes I’m it but
love I never am

AlwaysDoes

I didn’t think I
was but I am
I thought by thinking
that I wasn’t then
I really wasn’t but
when in fact and
in reality I am
I am looking for
love again but having
looked for it before
and it not being
true my looking is
now shielded as though
I haven’t yet discovered
the bomb but know
it’s there so I’m
already covering my eyes
Oh please don’t let
it hurt this time
for my body now
is less of me
and more the shrapnel
I’ve absorbed by way
of the previous explosions

DenverSummer

I adore summer days
especially in the high
desert of Denver where
the sun is hot
the breeze cool and
the leaves in the
trees sing in whispers
as though they’re afraid
of awakening God Himself
There’s something about summer
which rejuvenates me and
more importantly my soul
the colors are brighter
the clothes are looser
the smiles are warmer
and the kisses well
the kisses last longer
longer and longer still

Surprise!

And then just then
when you think that
nothing will come something
does something always comes
when it’s least expected
and from a place
unseen or ignored or
forgotten something charges forth
changing your direction and
destiny and it surprises
you and makes you
think
Standing there and thinking
trying to make sense
you find none and
you react and realize
that life and love
both occur in surprises
moments when you are
more yourself than before

OneDownOneUp

I guess I’m smarting
having yet once again
been snapped by the
end of a wet
towel feeling its sting
It lingers you know
despite the rough housing
playfulness bringing it about
the towel being words
and not terry cloth
but it’s the same
words always the same
words heard that crack
and bite bringing shock
and reaction to cover
myself with huh’s and
uhm’s and I see
knowing full well that
my hope just fell
faster than a rider
from a spooked horse
But I know that
in order to find
I must fall even
if the falling isn’t
together with someone else
this time but alone
