It’s odd
This reflection
Reflecting back
I see
A face
That’s not
My face
I remember
My face
That you
Saw then
But this
This face
No one
Ever sees
My youth
Is gone
Wrinkles replaced
By time
It’s odd
This reflection
Reflecting back
I see
A face
That’s not
My face
I remember
My face
That you
Saw then
But this
This face
No one
Ever sees
My youth
Is gone
Wrinkles replaced
By time
Where’s my forever gone
I blinked it disappeared
Lost in a lifetime
Of love and relationships
Given to others sometimes
As easily as withdrawing
Cash from an ATM
While a few others
A long term investment
That I watched evaporate
During a mid-life crash
And now as I
Stare into my what’s
Left in my piggy
Bank of affection I
Carefully count my pennies
What’s in eggnog anyway
Or a hot toddy
Oh I do know
How they are made
But what’s in them
Let me tell you
One long delicious lifetime
Of holidays with you
Happy Holidays my love
Now there’s nothing quite
Like some hot cocoa
Snow falling holiday jazz
You wearing sweatpants and
A Ho Ho Ho
Sweater struggling with strands
And strands and STRANDS
Of on now off
Now on now lights
As I watch you
Grow red with frustration
When I suddenly pull
You into my lap
And tell you quietly
Into your throat that
This is my absolute
Favorite part of Christmas
You only ever miss
Something until you can’t
We never really realize
How lucky we are
When we are lucky
We always seem to
Be looking somewhere else
When where we are
And what we’re doing
And who we’re with
Will one day be
Long gone and then
When it’s too late
We will miss now
Then
