EarlySun

The first chance

Of feeling today’s

Sun belongs to

The tallest of

Tall trees here

Just now their

Canopies are squinting

In early day

These tall trees

Stand head and

Shoulders above others

Like gangly taller-than-mates

Eighth graders in

Class photos the

Dawn sun moves

Across these trees

Like a slow

Yellow caterpillar across

The leaves of

It’s lunch eventually

Scorching everything with

The noon heat

FireworksYouAre (for Christopher)

And then there

You are absolutely

Nothing like I

Was looking for

But everything that

I needed friends

Now with the

World ahead filled

With promise of

Promises it is

Said that attraction

Springs from surprise

Me

Simply the ooooo’s

And ahhhhh’s of

Watching you light

Up like fireworks

MealWeAre (for Christopher)

And so we

Met for the

First time and

Like a meal

We explored each

Others tastes and

Aromas some savory

Some sweet some

Silky some chunky

After dining we

Were full gorged

On the other

Over laughter and

Honesty we learned

A bit more

About each other

Yet made room

For the dessert

GoodMorning

Low slung sun

Briefly shaded by

Clouds casts golden

Gilt on the

Bushy tops of

Tall trees like

Shave cream on

My father’s brush

Lathered and waiting

To moisten low

Clouds that hang

Like a five

A.m. shadow while

Daisies yawn and

Stretch slowly opening

Like Chinese fans

This quiet morn

Here in Charlotte

Us

And yet there

I said it

Not the fearful

Three words that

Are pre mature

And often lobbed

As blissful thinking

No this word

Means something more

It transcends one

Into something more

Than two it’s

A conjunction of

Sorts it’s us
