Cup

I have learned
not to miss
but rather wait
for you see
I am whole
not missing anything
what you bring
me is extra
a garnish to
the already filled
cup I am
I will quench
my own thirst
and you then
make me prettier

Surprise

You snuck up
on me day
I knew that
you were coming
you always do
around this hour
but I guess
even though known
I enjoy surprises
or pretend surprises
like a quick
kiss from a
lover whose lips
I’ve already known
*sigh such is
day said night

Where

Again we go
again we’re here
why don’t we
just stay since
this is where
why even bother
thinking that around
there is better
for around there
is halfway back
to here where
we always go

Whiskers

Little things set
in a row
glued down tight
like morning whiskers
meant to shave
skin from lips
sticking out popping
up these bristles
may brighten might
polish but often
they irritate and
irrigate dry things
making them moist
such are things
found in morning
and in woodsheds
and on animals

Sandpaper

Laying in dark
trying to decide
about impossible things
to make coffee
to wash up
to make certain
that I’m not
yet again so
many other things
coffee always helps
take edges off
of my disappointments
like sandpaper does
to cut wood
