I came here
with nothing and
yet created something
arriving absent of
and building towards
has been exhilarating
and now I
know why those
before me built
rather than occupied
for creating something
in one’s image
is creation itself

I do enjoy dull
finding things to polish
and make new again
but polishing things is
different than polishing people
people simply don’t change
no matter how hard
one rubs or shines
they remain the same
I think now that
people once dull remain
dull having always been
that lackluster tired way

dogs bite
cats scratch
but lovers
and people
should not
and when
they do
like birds
I fly
high above
and away

And so yesterday
I stumbled across
a recent photograph
on social media
of a home
that used to
be ours and
which now is
a house belonging
to him only
it looks familiar
that house though
now it's just
some random thing
lifeless standing there
no longer breathing
or pumping with
what once was
the very essence
of our life
funny how photographs
capture certain things
and miss many
others namely love
Adventure
A very dear friend
is starting a new
job today at the
young age of sixty
it just confirms that
life is an adventure
and that if anything
we are all but
children on the first
day of school whenever
we start something new
help me to wish
him luck on this
for he like all
of us at one
time or another have
been aboard our ship
embarking to somewhere unknown
while the rest wave
bon voyage from the
safety of the dock
