to hope
like an 
invisible thermal 

Imagine a still
nights so deep 
winds so calm 
barely a breeze
an evasive silence 
that’s so deafening 
that a cricket 
chirps its faraway 
song like tympani 
an empty mind
that’s so saturating 
that its bath
water never cools 
then imagine this 
that you have 
finally found the 
gateway to that
are you ever 
willing to go 
back to what
it was before 
I think not

A blessing 
is simply 
what one
heart whispers 
to another 
in a
language that 
only the 
soul speaks

Like a bear
shaking off sleep 
and leaves and 
twigs so do
I the epithets 
launched at me 
a million arrows 
sent skyward without 
aim just misery
and I unshielded
duck and dodge 
vainly attempting to 
avoid the attack 
into a door 
I stumble maybe 
little more than 
a ditch in
which to hide 
smelling the carnage 
of my cowardice 

To have peace
one must maintain 
the peace that 
one has found 
me I clean 
my home often 
knowing that it
is the frame
wherein one can 
see the artwork 
of my serenity
